Living in Israel: You Have to Believe First

Xiao Ma, for New York Times Chinese

This article is based on my personal experience of one-semester of exchange at Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. I had the opportunity to take a private class with Prof. Yael Nemirovsky, among other challenging classes. The challenge was much more than just the material itself, but more in pedagogy. I was, for the first time, encouraged to think deeply about the applications of theories rather than the calculations themselves. I also got to travel, and visited many beautiful places, including Jaffa Port (in picture), Jerusalem, Sea of Galilee, etc. The post described my first encounter of a culture drastically different from the one I was brought up in.
